With the sounds of Mexican ranchera music, gritos, trumpets blaring, and the aroma of delicious pastries and pan dulce floating in the air, 91涩漫 celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month with a fiesta on Oct. 11 at the Seibel Wing.
鈥淎s a Hispanic student, having an important event at the college that represents my cultural heritage meant a lot to me,鈥� said Hispanic Student Organization President, Ashley Marlen Hinojosa. 鈥淚 appreciate everyone who was fascinated with all the performances and got to know the Hispanic culture through the art of music and dance. The event brought awareness to the Hispanic culture and to the Hispanic Student Organization, and we hope it encourages other students to join the organization in the future.鈥�
The 91涩漫 Hispanic Heritage Month Fiesta was hosted in collaboration among several departments, programs and student organizations, including the 91涩漫 Departments of Student Life and Marketing and Communication, the Culinary Arts program, the Student Government Association and Hispanic Student Organization.
The celebration featured a performance by the Ball High School Ballet Folkl贸rico and local Mariachi Emperadores de M茅xico. In addition, the Culinary Arts program provided refreshments and Latin American pastries, while the Hispanic Student Organization provided Mexican pan dulce and hosted games such as Loteria. Giveaways and commemorative T-shirts were distributed to students, faculty and staff by the 91涩漫 Marketing and Communication Department.
鈥淓veryone loved the event and as a student it was culturally enriching to get to experience the different cultures that make up Latin America,鈥� said 91涩漫 student Mikayla Moore. 鈥淚t was such a fun and festive atmosphere and the performances by the ballet folkl贸rico and the mariachi were very entertaining.鈥�
